the fuse

As I was reading Fastbreak Futbol this morning, I came across one of the Elizabeth Lambert posts and it made me want to see the actual footage from the BYU vs. New Mexico soccer game. Kent showed it to me the day the game took place, but I wanted to see again. I did a search on Google and of course several videos popped up on YouTube, but this one caught my ear. That's right, my ear. Sure, it shows Miss Lambert in all her glory (crazy viciousness, actually), but the song is great! Does it fit the video? Not really, but it did get me to watch the clip a few times.

The title of the song is Hello and it's by a band called The Fuse. I have never heard of them (I don't think they are terribly well-known), but I listened to a few of their songs and they are good. I tried finding the band on iTunes, but they were no where to be found. Luckily, you can go to their website to preview the songs and download the album. I might have to do that.

Anyway, thank you Fastbreak for helping me find a new song/band in a very round about way.

pull my heart away

Thanks to my friend, Heather, I have a new favorite song called "Pull My Heart Away". It is so good. I don't know how many times I've listened to it since discovering it on my "recently added" playlist yesterday, but it has been played well over 10 times. I'm stuck on it and I can't seem to move onto the other songs from the Heather playlist. If they're as good as this one, my music library is set for the next week or two.

Try turning it up really loud, your neighbors will appreciate it. Kent turned it down last night in fear that the neighbors would be disturbed, but I think they would have run over to ask who it was. Okay, probably not, but you'll want to blast it and move your body. You'll see what I mean.



By the way, I love that this guy is running around Petra. What a cool place to film a music video. Jack Penate, I need to get to know you and your music better.

little bits of heaven

This is my first afternoon working from home in a long time and I'm quite enjoying it.

Simple pleasures include:

Indulging in this noon-day dessert, a peach cupcake. I found the recipe here through a series of blog links. Tasty, yes. Time consuming, yes, especially if you're a baker-in-the-making like me. There may or may not have been an entire egg dropped in the batter by accident. Luckily, no eggshells have surfaced in the finished product so far.

I'm also enjoying this band and song:

The Doves are one of my favorite British bands. Their music is so sensory and the lyrics never fail to make me think. I'm stuck on the song "Kingdom of Rust" at the moment.

At least twice a week, I listen to the playlist on my friend Melissa's blog. I don't remember when I started listening to it, but I love it. For me it's like listening to Pandora, but every song gets a thumb's up, no need to reject any. That being said, she mentioned something about a singer named Laura Jansen in a post, so I decided to check her out. I haven't listened to many of Miss Jansen's songs, but I found this video and I love it. The song is called 'Bells'.



How adorable is that? It makes me want to:

A. Visit Holland.
B. Do my hair in 40s fashion.
C. Send Kent a love note in a bottle. (Not sure how to work that...)
D. Ride my bike more.

Anyway, just thought I would pass Laura Jansen along. I'm excited to listen to more of her music.

So, I don't listen to KROQ very often, but as I was driving to work last week, I came across this band called Metric and now I can't really stop listening to one of their songs. I'm stuck on Help, I'm Alive (see video below), but they have a few good songs. I need to do a little more research on them, but I think I'm sold on their goodness. My goal is to somehow get us to Halifax, Nova Scotia to see them next month. We'll see.

Today I was adding some songs to our blog playlist and I remembered this cool, lesser-known song by U2, but not completely by U2, that I wanted to add. The writer and some of the vocals were done by Michael Hutchence, the front man for INXS back in the day. I know INXS is a band from the 80s, but if you asked me to name of one of their songs, I couldn't. (Side note: I just looked them up. I know who they are. I immediately recognized the first song listed, "New Sensation". How could I not know that? My older siblings would be so disappointed in me. They probably loved INXS.)

Back to the song at hand, "Slide Away". It's great, but hard to find. Here's the twist with it, some of the vocals were performed by Michael Hutchence, but he died suspiciously before the song was officially released or created. Bono took it and made it magically mysterious. Yes, mysterious. It is such a funky, spooky-ish song. I can't decide if the slight chill factor in the song is due to the music and lyrics or because I know the guy wasn't alive when the song came out. Not sure, but I hope you enjoy it.
