same thing, different genre

I like Taylor Swift. Really, I do. She's cute and has a good voice. I even downloaded that Romeo and Juliet song ("Love Story") off of iTunes, which kind of shocked Kent due to its teenage flair, but as I was driving to work yesterday, I heard her song "You Belong to Me" and I thought to myself, where have I heard this before? The lyrics, the idea behind them....it all seemed vaguely familiar. Then, I pinned it down. Avril Lavigne. Yes, Avril's "Girlfriend" song is the punk version of "You Belong to Me". No joke. Their videos are even the same (in an opposite kind of way), one is just country pop and the other is punk pop. See for yourself.

videos.

(Sorry for some of the swearing, I tried to get the radio edit. Avril isn't quite as sweet as Taylor.)

So, they're the same, but not. Either way, I like the teeny-bopper stuff sometimes. It's catchy and takes me back to high school. Who wouldn't want to relive those days?

If you really want a trip listen to Avril's song "Skater Boy". I think it is more like "You Belong to Me". Crazy copy - I am not a big Taylor Swift fan.

Last week we went to hear Jon Schmidt live--he played Love Story Meets Viva La Vida with the awesome cello player. WOW. We took all 5 kids and they loved it too.
